ELECTRIC DRIVES IN MODRN CARS

Abstract:
The paper presents the history of electric car and the most interesting events related to its evolution. The stimulants contributing to increasing interest in electric cars are mainly the prospect of fossil fuel resource depletion and imposing more and more restrictive environment protection requirements. The article overviews the expansion of research on use of different types of electric motors for the cars and vehicles observed in 1990s and reviews the areas where electric motors are used for auxiliary and main drives, showing also the propulsion system requirements. Further sections of the paper demonstrate the results of comparative analysis on presently used conventional motors versus disk-type motors. Moreover, the advantages of disk-type motors with high energy permanent magnets are described and the selected results of simulation tests on magnetic induction of magnetic circuit configuration are presented.
