Abstract:
High voltage pulse forming applications usually require the use of either mechanical, gas or high voltage semiconductor switches. High dU/dt requirements of modern high voltage pulse generators and differences in required pulse forms almost imply the application specific pulse forming network design. A new high voltage pulse forming network topology is presented using typical 1.2 kV IGBT as power switches and a semi-digital algorithm to shape the output pulse. The well-known Marx generator topology [1] is modified in a way allowing the software programmable output pulse forming and timing.
