APPLICATION OF DISCRETE WAVELET TRANSFORM IN VIBRATION MONITORING OF MACHINE TOOLS

Abstract:
An analysis of different aspects of application of the machine tool main drive torsional vibration signal for detection of self-excited vibration that arise during cutting is presented. As a symptom of excessively growing vibration amplitudes a wavelet decomposition of the measured signal is utilized. Comparison of results obtained with Daubechies' wavelet filters of different length is illustrated with results carried on during unstable cutting experiments. Different wavelet representations are evaluated in terms of the energy content and their dynamic changes.
