Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to elucidate the energy aspects when soft starters are used for starting and braking the squirrel - cage induction motors with constant load. The technique for engineering calculations of induction motor energy losses in transients when applied voltage changes in accordance with linear or exponential laws is given in this work.
The theory is illustrated with curves with show energy losses dependences on transient time for a concrete induction motor. The energy aspects are considered for continuous and intermittent periodic duties of electrical drives.
