|BLUETOOTH DEVICES IN BIOMEDICAL EQUIPMENT|
In the paper an outline of the Bluetooth (BT) wireless mobile communications technology is described. The features of this technology - important in biomedical applications - are discussed in details. Comparison with other wireless technologies in this field (IrDA, WLAN, DECT, WMTS -wireless medical telemetry systems, etc.) is presented. Several examples of recently developed prototype medical systems using BT devices are also shown, as well as prospective applications of this technology in wireless, wearable BT-compatible biomedical sensors. Some of the author's own concepts of the BT-technology usage models for wireless biomedical equipment and systems are presented, from a simple point-to-point connection of a biomedical sensor with a host monitor, to piconets for HomeCare applications.
