DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-VOLTAGE SUPERCONDUCTIVE ALTERNATOR OPERATING WITH DC TRANSMISSION LINE

Abstract:
High-rated superconductive (SC) generator comprises the rotor with a SC field winding and the stator of slotless design. The slotless construction of the armature winding permits to apply a non-conventional geometry of the winding and the absence of an iron teeth-zone allows to introduce the high-voltage designs of the stator. Combination of SC generator and SC direct current transmission line, connected via current converter, permits to have a moderate level of voltage for transmission of large amounts of electric energy. There were developed and tested the main units of a stator of 5MVA model generator with a high-voltage 40 kV winding, a race-track coil of high-temperature superconductor for the excitation winding and a sample of a DC cable. The development of 220 MW, 220 kV system, comprising a turbogenerator, a converter and a bipolar transmission cable with application of SC elements was carried out as well. The system allows to exclude an intermediate transformer and to gain in size and weight additionally.
