THEORY AND DESIGN OF THE INDUCTION MOTOR SOFT STARTERS

Abstract:
The paper reports the results of theoretical research and design of soft starters for IM with cage and wound rotors. The following three milestones are defined as the basis of soft starter theory: the detailed transient analysis on the base of adequate mathematical IM models, the synthesis of minimized and suppressed transient, control strategy of high performance soft starting. Two designs of contactless starters are described accordingly with two types of IM. The first one is based on skin effect in starting reactors connected to rotor windings the second relates to switch mode power converters on stator side. The finite element method and intelligent control technology are suggested for a design optimization.
